Church Council August Meeting Update- Submitted by Ruth Reilly
The following topics were discussed during the August Church Council Meeting:
1. Draft policies in the following areas: Scouting, Discipleship, Nominations and Leadership Development Committee, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Finance Committee, Trustees/Church Property, and Articles of Religion.
2. The Fall Church Calendar through December- it was noted that this is a living document that is updated on a regular basis. All Church Council members were requested to go through Sheila to add or change calendar events.
3. Google Workspace Update- Harvester has opened a Google Workspace Account to address needs for secure email communications, access to online conferencing and the creation of a secure electronic filing cabinet for important documents.
4. Feedback on Draft Harvester Policy- A draft of Harvester’s Policy document will be available for congregational review and feedback in late October prior to adoption at the Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 17, 2024. Paper copies of the draft document will be available to the congregation. Feedback or questions can be shared with members of the Church Council or written on copies of the draft policy document and submitted to the church office.
5. Annual Congregational Meeting on November 17, 2024. All members of the congregation are invited to attend Harvester Community Church’s First Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 17 following second service. The congregation will have an opportunity to vote on the proposed Harvester Community Church’s Policy document, nominations and leadership positions, and the annual budget.
August Update
- We have four WONDERFUL ladies who have volunteered to help in the Nursery during 2nd Service. We are still looking for someone to volunteer to do 5th Sundays and/or to substitute in the Nursery when needed.
- We are attempting to create a Children’s Ministry Team. I sent an email titled "An Opportunity of a Lifetime" to 15 individuals.
Four people have responded with a "Yes" reply. Two responded with a "No" response. Nine have not responded.
- The theme for the month of August has been "Dive Deep - There's always More to Explore". We spent the month learning about how we can gain wisdom from stories in the Bible, from others, and from looking within ourselves.
- The theme for the month of September is "Shine Jesus' Light". It will focus on caring for and consideration of others.
- We are planning a Family Time for after the 5th Sunday Potluck. We are gearing towards activities with water: Water Balloon Toss,
Water Tic Tac Toe, Slip and Slide Fun. Any other suggestions would be surely appreciated!!!!
August Update
The CCM is delighted and honored to serve the members of HCC during times of need. The journey through hardship is more bearable when one has a community to lean on. Understanding suffering and the church's role allows us to see how congregational care can guide members through their toughest times.

Quiet month with the following maintenance issues being addressed:
New on/ off sensor ordered for the Youth Hallway lights. Lights will not turn off.
Preventive maintenance to be performed on the lift station by Ace Septic on 8/26.
Waiting on Piper Fire to replace a leaking test valve at the street shutoff for the fire suppression system. Also waiting on Piper to replace 1 emergency light and 1 strobe light inside of the building.
Waiting on a quote from Advanced Arborist to trim the trees over our entrance driveway. They are interfering with our waste haulers truck when he comes onto the property to empty the dumpster.
Airight repaired the A/ C unit for the Fellowship Hall. Possibly hit by lightning. Repairs were minor.
Received a check for $103.75 for August for proceeds from the clothing shed.
Q3 June & July & August Update
As you know our goal this New Year is revolving around making sure our youth have an understanding of the importance of owning their Faith as opposed to “leasing” the idea of the Faith only on Sundays. The past month of June and July in process: - The Youth group went t camp and has been increasingly attending the Sunday nights - Additional Youth in the group have begun to see Sunday Morning attendance as a something to begin doing. We’ve had 4 to 5 additional youth join us for 2nd Service. - The Youth group continues to be heavily involved with our Church Worship team as well Goals In Process… - This month of July we have begun to go deeper in Bible Study and focusing on the life of Jesus - We have been updating Sunday mornings with themes that’ll attract younger families and youth.
August 2024
1. Review of current financials: Income is up approximately 6.5% YoY, while spending is up only 1.25% YoY. Budget adherence is good.
2. We will be working soon with the different departments to complete 2025 budgets.
3. A vote was held to rename “Apportionments” to “Congregational Giving”. The vote passed by unanimous consent. Finance will work with Church Council and Missions to determine how best to deploy the money being accrued in this account ($24,108 as of June 30th).
4. A vote was held to reallocate $50,000 from the B Sheffield unrestricted fund to the Capital restricted fund, for the purposes of protecting funds in a reserve. The vote was passed by unanimous consent.
5. We will open discussion with Jennifer Smith regarding a contingency plan for church accounting and bookkeeping.
6. As part of the church disaffiliation from the UMC, it was agreed that Pastor Russ’ compensation would remain the same. There has been no practical mechanism for continued funding of his pension. Harvester is in arrears approximately $7336 to Pastor for this commitment. Pastor will discuss with his accountant to see if there is a tax advantaged way for us to meet this commitment, or if we will pay it as regular income.
7. Harvester is developing policies based on the UMC Book of Discipline. Jerry Allison will continue to work with the church council to mark-up and rewrite the portions of this policy relating to Finance.
