Sundays are an important part of Lent, but we do not include them in the “40 days” because on every Sunday we remember and celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. Lent is a time for reflection, self-examination, repentance, and deepening one's relationship with God. During this season of the church year, the focus generally shifts from Jesus’s public ministry to his final journey to Jerusalem. Lent   prepares us for the Passion of Jesus (the story of his arrest, trial, suffering  and crucifixion) and anticipates his resurrection.
